Botox refers to a toxin produced by a bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum. These toxins cause botulism if ingested or injected in large amounts. It can also cause paralysis. Scientists have however found a way to use small amounts of the toxin to cause controlled muscle weakness in specific parts of the body.
This started when it was discovered that it can be used to cure lazy eye and uncontrolled blinking. Its use has grown and is now more commonly associated with the treatment of wrinkles and facial creases. Botox in Visakhapatnam is gaining popularity as well.
How Botox works
Botox interferes with the transfer of signals from the nerves to the muscles. The muscle that receives a Botox injection can therefore no longer contract and the nearby wrinkles relax and soften as a result. It is usually used on forehead lines, the lines surrounding the eyes (crow’s feet) and frown lines. It will however not work on wrinkles that have been caused by sun damage or gravity.
This lasts for four to six months and another Botox session in Visakhapatnam will be required after this since muscles gradually contract again. The effect lasts longer as time goes by since the muscles are somewhat being trained to relax and the wrinkles look less severe with time.
Side effects of Botox
- Temporary bruising is common.
- Headaches are rare but they may end within a day or two.
- Some patients may have drooping eyelids but it goes away in three weeks. It occurs because the Botox is moving around. Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for about 12 hours after the injection has been administered. You can also lie down for about four hours.
There are a number of other procedures that can be used to combat wrinkles apart from Botox in Visakhapatnam.
